Food Equity Coalition of Summit County

THE FOOD EQUITY COALITION

The Summit County Food Equity Coalition (FEC) is a group of approximately 12-15 community members with lived experience of food insecurity. The coalition meets regularly to advocate for food justice by sharing personal stories, attending local meetings and conferences, engaging with the broader community to support others facing food insecurity, to raise awareness of issues in the food system, and to overcome food insecurity in our community.

The FEC also plays a key role in transforming our food distribution sites into more welcoming and inclusive spaces for Summit County residents. FIRC is proud to offer an inclusive space at our Community Food Markets where shoppers do not need to provide identification or income verification to access a wide variety of fresh food items, including produce, dairy, meat, grains, shelf-stable pantry items, diapers, hygiene items, household products, pet food and more.

As a resource deeply embedded in the community, the FEC helps us better understand and address food equity issues. Members commit to a year of participation to build meaningful relationships and strengthen connections within the group. To promote accessibility, FEC meetings offer interpretation in English and Spanish to bridge language gaps and always include meals. Coalition members are compensated for their time and commitment to community advocacy and policy development around combating hunger.

The Food Equity Coalition is community informed and designed with a foundation in food justice, advocating for systemic changes that make big-picture sustainable impacts.

The Food Equity Coalition (FEC) is not currently accepting new members at this time. If you are interested in joining in the future, please complete this form to be added to our waitlist: FEC Waitlist

THIS IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY COALITION.
