How long have you worked at FIRC?
“I’ve been here for two years.”
What is your role, and what does a typical day look like for you?
“I started as an intake coordinator and am currently the intake supervisor. A typical day starts at home, reviewing communications from after hours. Then I drive to the office, where I spend most of my day in the lobby answering calls, messages, and emails, welcoming clients, and talking with them.“
What inspired you to join FIRC?
“FIRC has been present in the community since the day I arrived in the county. My dad was good friends with a former FIRC Thrift Store manager and was a frequent volunteer. I would often visit the store, which was always fun with interesting finds. Later on, without me even looking, a friend reached out to tell me about an open position. I thought, “Why not?”“
What’s your greatest FIRC memory so far?
“Most of my best memories are with my colleagues. The most memorable one was when my best friend, Monse, organized a birthday celebration for me and brought cochinita pibil, a Mexican dish I hadn’t had in a long time. Many of my best memories are with her from when we were in the same department; our conversations and seeing her passion for her work are precious to me.“
What do you love most about working with the community?
“I love feeling rooted and connected to the community.“
How do you see your work making a difference in people’s lives?
“I hope to set an example of how to be human and to treat others with respect and dignity at all times. In my experience, when you do that, you receive the same back.
What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
“I enjoy the nightlife in Mexico. I love being in places where people express subcultures through their clothing and music. That’s my ideal vacation. Cities like Chihuahua, Guadalajara, and Mexico City have my favorite spots to dance and meet people like me. It fills me with energy and leaves me feeling renewed.”
What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend in Summit County?
“At the moment, I’ve been enjoying staying at home and working on little projects where I can create something.“
Coffee or tea (or something else!)—what keeps you going during busy days?
“I love Red Bull. I don’t drink it every day, but I make an exception on busy days when I need a catalyst to get everything done.”
